Resources for
International, Immigrant, and Undocumented Students
Students United is the official advocacy body for over 55,000 Minnesota State University students. Students United is not a legal resource, however, and instead, we rely on outside communities and organizations for support.
In light of the recent detainment of Minnesota international students, we are looking to support students by providing them with Know Your Rights resources, local legal resources available for pro-bono work, and ways you can support international, immigrant, and undocumented students on your campus.

Know Your Rights Trainings
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center has a number of helpful videos detailing your rights and demonstrating what to do if ICE knocks on your door, enters your house, and if ICE arrests you. Click here to watch the ILRC's Know Your Rights videos.
These videos are available in a number of languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Russian, and Urdu.
If You Have An Encounter With ICE as a Minnesota State University Student
-
Follow all protocols in the Know Your Rights videos or detailed on your Know Your Rights Cards.
-
If not detained, immediately alert your school's International Student Support Office and alert Students United.
-
Check the status of your visa as soon as possible. Continue to check in on your visas' status, and the federal government's current position on your country of origin.
-
If you are an undocumented or DACA student, obtain a lawyer as soon as possible and alert your University's International Student Support Office that you were visited by ICE.
We are urging all International, Immigrant, and Undocumented students to:
-
Be aware of your surroundings. These detainments have taken place largely at off-campus residences, at night or late evening. ICE officials can be in plain-clothes, and have been for the majority of these detainments.
-
Know your rights. It's important you remain silent, only requesting to speak to a lawyer, even if you don't have one. Do not sign anything, do not answer their questions.
-
Always let friends and family know where you are going, especially if you live off campus.
-
Stay informed on your visa's status.
-
Talk with your school to find out what they are doing to support international, immigrant, and undocumented students.
-
If you see anything, or hear anything regarding ICE on campus, send a staff member an email or fill out our contact form here.
