Hello, my fellow students and Students United stakeholders, with the best of greetings, I said peace be on to you all.
My name is Moshood Agboola (Ojora-Williams) and it is with great humility and excitement to be serving and representing my fellow Minnesota State university students as a Treasurer. I'm currently in my first of two senior years at Southwest Minnesota State University with a double major in Biology and Exercise Science, and triple minors in Health Communication, Nutrition, and Political science, respectively.
One of my favorite Malcolm X quotes says, "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything." This has been a philosophy I've adopted throughout my college years. Being an international student, I personally came into the system with the mindset of a curious leadership template for explicit overall advocacy, knowledge acquisition, and personal growth. I've served in various campus leadership roles such as Student Senator, International Students President, Exercise Science Club Vice President, Muslim Student Association President, and was recently nominated to the National Society of Leadership and Success, among many other positions and roles at SMSU.
I joined Students United during my sophomore year at SMSU along with other like-minded students as an avenue to advocate for our fellow SMSU students and channel our concerns to the state-wide student body. Ever since then, having collectively worked with fellow student leaders, I've learned to become a more passionate and consistent advocate for domestic and international students concerning issues, potential developments, and long-term student-centered structural changes for policy-makers.
Having served on various students united committees, I became more interested in Students United because it is an opportunity for me to continue serving my fellow students; this time, at a state-wide level by working closely with other campus representatives and Students United staff in leading, dealing, and managing the necessities of our stable student-led organization, where we move ahead and proselytizes to benefit the Minnesota State universities' student population.
Beyond advocacy, I enjoy volunteering and supporting people on campus and off-campus community during my off times. I'm an active community mentorship ambassador in Marshall as well as a passionate soccer player and fanatic, and I am currently volunteering as the assistant coach of the SMSU women's soccer team. Lastly, I do like conducting and analyzing fitness research, with the aim of promoting good habits and healthy lifestyles for people.
I am eager to serve and work closely with fellow student leaders within the organization and on various campuses to ensure that we do our possible best to meet the standards as expected of us for consistent representation and advocacy on behalf of Minnesota State students. I honestly believe that with firsthand all-out efforts from everyone, students' concerning issues will be considered and prioritized at the university level, system, state, and federal decision-making tables, respectively.
I and the rest of this year's team are going to ensure that we are going to make an impact..&..make it count!
This is my pledge and I hope you enjoy this journey with us.
