My name is Ryuto Hashimoto (he/him), and I’m a new finance intern at Students United. I major in the Interdisciplinary Studies program with concentrations of Multicultural Society, Nonprofit Leadership, and Communication Studies at Minnesota State university, Mankato. I’m so excited to work for Students United and our Minnesota State University students.
I was originally born and raised in Japan for 19 years, and I came to the United States for my bachelor’s program. Studying as an international student in a foreign country, it has been always interesting to think about how to help people from different backgrounds work together successfully in the community. In my sophomore year, I started working as a volunteer English tutor at a small nonprofit sector, and that’s how I discovered a nonprofit organization as an option to make my contribution toward multicultural society. I was fascinated by the unique way to serve our community, purely pursuing the solid mission unlike for-profit organizations with shareholders. Eventually, I added Nonprofit Leadership to my undergraduate program and started learning practical skills as a nonprofit leader.
In addition to my academic concentration, the other part of this internship program, student leadership, has been one of the most significant topics for me. I’m a current academic senator of Student Government at Minnesota State University, Mankato and work to improve students’ experience at university. My up-to-date knowledge earned from my leadership position at MNSU will further help the team to reflect up-to-date demand from Minnesota State University students.
Throughout the program, I’m looking forward to learning practical skills to operate a nonprofit sector and making positive change for our students from the financial side. I appreciate Students United and all students at 7 Minnesota State Universities for enabling me to have this wonderful experience.
