How to Get Involved With Students United

Help Us Improve Student Life

Are you a student currently enrolled in a Minnesota State University? As a student led organization, we're dedicated to supporting students, ensuring needs are met, and creating a more equitable higher education experience for all students.

Your input matters, and we want YOU to get involved!

Here are ways students at the seven Minnesota State Universities can impact our work!

Join us for our Annual Advocacy Conference

Our annual Advocacy Conference provides students from the seven Minnesota State Universities an opportunity to come to Saint Paul, lobby their legislators, and learn how to effectively advocate for issues that matter to them. Click below to learn more!

Give Feedback on Governing Documents

While we seek input on our advocacy efforts, we're also seeking feedback on our work as an organization. It's important we hear from you as a student on our governance structure, and the issues our organizations is fighting for.

Head to our Governing Documents page to read the documents and share input.

Join a Committee and Advise our Board of Directors

Share Your Story with the Board of Trustees

The Students United State Chair appoints students to multiple Minnesota State councils, committees, and work groups.

The Minnesota State system is governed by the Board of Trustees, a 15-member body that includes one state university student, one community college student and one technical college student. The members are appointed by the Governor of Minnesota to guide the overarching work of the system, including major policies and key budget decisions.

Lobby the State Government

Students United meets with elected state representatives to advocate for our state legislative agenda, our policy priorities for the session. We do this by testifying in front of legislative committees and meeting directly with elected officials.

Once a session, Students United brings groups of students from each of our seven campuses directly to the State Capitol in St. Paul to meet with elected officials throughout the day about these issues. These individuals are chosen by the board members from each campus.

Additionally, Students United has students testify in front of legislative committees to ensure elected officials know the stories of the real people impacted by their decisions.

If you’re interested in speaking with state officials, contact our Government Relations team.
