Minnesota State Names Interim Chancellor

 
 

Minnesota State named Devinder Malhotra, as the Minnesota State Interim Chancellor. Dr. Malhotra will serve while the search for a permanent chancellor continues.

about Dr. Devinder Malhotra

Dr. Malhotra has a long history working in higher education and has experience within the Minnesota State system. 

He served in two leadership positions at Minnesota State universities:

  • 2009-2014: Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at St. Cloud State University
  • 2014-2016: Interim President at Metropolitan State University 

Other higher education positions he has held: 

  • 2005-2009: Associate Dean of the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Akron
  • Prior to 2005: Dr. Malhotra was a tenured professor of economics for over three decades at the University of Southern Maine and the University of Akron. 

His education:

Dr. Malhotra received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s from the University of Delhi, and a doctorate from Kansas State University. Furthermore, he completed the Management Development Program of the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education.

about the process

Minnesota State had a search committee to find the next chancellor. However, after the interview process, the Board of Trustees decided continuing the search and having an interim chancellor would be the correct move for the system.
