Scholarships Deadline Quickly Approaching

Written By || Malik Samuel; Development Intern

Hi all!

The scholarship deadlines are approaching us fast – there are only 8 days left! With all that's going on with the COVID-19 virus, keep the health of you and your loved ones the top priority. While spreading care for others, please don't lose sight of this opportunity we have to offer -- we have over $40,000 in scholarship funds to allocate this year!

April 1st is the deadline for our scholarship applications. Do not overlook this opportunity or take it for granted. I am the Development Intern here at Students United, and my name is Malik Samuel. Coming out of high school not knowing what I know now, these scholarships could’ve changed my life and many of the others around me. These scholarships are the enabler for many in terms of higher education access. I know many students in high school who had the potential to succeed in higher education but were unable to pursue the opportunity due to the financial burden. Students United scholarships can be a part of funding your college or university experience.

Many students may be discouraged or overwhelmed from applying from scholarships because of the criteria needed to apply. When I first started looking at scholarships, I certainly was overwhelmed. But once I finally sat down and began to apply, I noticed the eligibility criteria was less complex than expected – I was an enrolled student, a student of color, I graduated from a Saint Paul Public School. I qualified for a lot of scholarships, many more than I expected. I did not by many means have the strongest GPA or the most robust resume, but I still worked hard to apply for scholarships. Don’t let that sliver of doubt keep you from receiving thousands of dollars towards your education.

Strong applications include all the required information. Students United portal won’t let you save, but you can go in to see what items are needed. Be sure you read through all the requested information and answer the questions thoroughly. Are you invested in your community? Do you have an internship planned for next year? Have you been a leader? We have scholarships you that you could qualify for. Check out all the opportunities here: studentsunited.org/scholarship

I wish the best to you and your loved ones and wish you all good health and safety in these times and I encourage you to apply! Deadlines for scholarships is April 1, except for the Nellie Stone Johnson scholarship, which is due on June 1.
