State of Emergency Update & FY21 Plan

Students United will continue to operate in a State of Emergency as we persist through the COVID-19 pandemic together. During this time, our office will remain closed and all business will be conducted virtually or, if necessary, strict precautions will be required to do any work in-person.

The pandemic has shifted the following business for the upcoming year:

  • System and legislative advocacy

  • In-person advocacy events and actions

  • In-person committees, board meetings, and conferences

  • In-person fundraising events and actions

  • Campus travel

As such, Students United has updated our programs and governing documents to conduct business virtually and more accessibly. The plan for meetings and events is as follows:

1. All meetings of the board and committees of the board will be held virtually. In place of our annual conferences, committees of the board will convene virtually throughout the year. The FY21 committees of the board are:

  • Delegates Assembly Committee

  • Internal Affairs Advisory Committee

  • Legislative Priorities Advisory Committee

  • System Priorities Advisory Committee

  • Campus Engagement Advisory Ad-Hoc Committee

  • Strategic Planning Advisory Ad-Hoc Committee

To learn more about these committees, head to: studentsunited.org/blog/fy21-committees. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please email your board member. You can find their contact information here.

2. Opportunities for students to directly participate in advocacy have also been moved to a virtual format. These include:

  • Online convenings of the Minnesota State councils and committees. To learn more about MinnState councils, head to studentsunited.org/minnstate. If you are interested in serving as a Students United representative, please email the State Chair at statechair@studentsunited.org.

  • Spring legislative advocacy opportunities will be virtual, including online meetings between students and their state and federal representatives. More information will be available closer to the spring semester.

  • Advocacy trainings and workshops will be provided online. More details to come.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to rework our regular programming in the midst of a pandemic. Our commitment to protecting the health and safety of our students will always be our highest priority, and we look forward to finding new and innovative ways to work with our students in our efforts to create a better future for us all.
