We are excited to announce our new Executive Director, Tom Anderson!

BY THOMAS ANDERSON [HE/HIM] | Executive Director

I am thrilled to announce that I will be taking on the role of Executive Director for Student United. I am ready to build on the progress we have made and to continue to build our local, system, state, and federal advocacy work alongside our amazing Students United students, alumni, and staff. I am excited to work with our new student leaders who will be joining us this summer, and to work with the students who are returning to continue the fight for their fellow students and university communities.

I also want to thank our outgoing Executive Director, Carlee Diggins for giving me the opportunity to join Students United three years ago when she hired me to run our government relations department. I was coming off five years as a teacher and it was a big career change for me. She supported me every step of the way and I would not be where I am without her. I am grateful for her leadership, and I am honored to be able to continue to build upon the amazing work that she did here at Students United.

I was extremely fortunate to be able to serve as the head of our government relations department for the past three years. It was an amazing opportunity to work for students alongside our student leaders and staff. If you are interested in joining our team, please check back on our website to apply for the Government Relations Coordinator position at Students United. We will be posting it tonight, and we would love for you to join our team!

As we approach the 55th Anniversary of our organization, we would greatly appreciate your engagement and support. Next year, we’re planning to spend more time on campuses, return to D.C., and host two Advocacy Conferences and so much more. Additionally, we’ll be rolling out the first full year of our Student Leadership Program, which provides mentorship and career readiness training to students on each campus, as they work to support out higher education advocacy engagement.

If you think our organizations could work together, please reach out. We cannot create a more equitable and accessible higher education system on our own. It is going to take all of us. I would love to meet for coffee or a Zoom call. You can send me an email at tanderson@studentsunited.org, give me a call at 612-759-1279, or join us in person for our 55th Celebration this fall on September 8th, 2022. We would love to see you there! If you are able, we would also greatly appreciate your support for this critical work, and donations of any size are welcome. Gifts can be made here. We’ve got work to do and I’m excited to take on this new challenge. Reach out anytime!
